Top 10 Fastest Factory Corvettes of All Time (Top Speed)
Forget 0-60, roll racing, & the quarter mile, FAST is all about TOP SPEED. The top three fastest factory Corvettes? All capable of cruising past 200 mph!
Intro
With the recent reveal of the C8 ZR1 there has been a lot of focus on the claimed top speed of the car. It will be the fastest factory Corvette of all time. That is no secret. But while that car may sit at the top of the speed mountain there are plenty of really fast Corvettes out there. And while it is unlikely that you will ever max out your Corvette, it is still fun to talk about top speed. So, that is what we plan to do today. We created a list of the ten fastest factory Corvettes ever made. And while you would expect the newest cars to be the fastest, there are some older Corvettes that can still hit eye popping speeds.
10. 1990 – 1995 C4 ZR-1 (179 mph)
The C4 ZR-1 is the oldest car on our list by quite a margin. And while it is technically the slowest of the bunch there is nothing embarrassing about hitting nearly 180 mph. Especially when you consider this was done 30 years ago. The C4 ZR-1 was a game-changing car for Corvette. It has the first ever non-pushrod V8 installed in a Corvette. That LT5 powerplant was enough to push the Corvette to speeds that rivaled supercars of the day.
9. 2014 – 2019 C7 Stingray (180 mph)
The ZR-1 was the pinnacle of C4 performance. But a couple of generations later a base Stingray model could best the top speed of the C4 ZR-1. That is impressive progress. Of course, by the time the C7 Stingray came out in 2014 the V8 engine was making 455 horsepower which was significantly more than what was under the hood of the C4 ZR-1.
8. 2024+ C8 E-Ray (183 mph)
Here we have another groundbreaking Corvette. It is the first electrified Corvette, and the first to use all-wheel drive. The combined results in a blisteringly quick Corvette, but also a fast Corvette. With 650 combined horsepower the E-Ray can comfortably cruise to 183 mph. It is nowhere near the fastest on this list, but it is fast enough to get you into a lot of trouble.
7. 2008 – 2013 C6 Corvette (190 mph)
A base C6 Corvette with the LS3 engine is one of the best speed per dollar bargains going right now. You can pick one up for less than $30K and for that amount of money you have a 190-mph sports car. A base C6 may not turn heads like it did when it was new, but there is no arguing about the performance. This car is proof that you don’t need a Corvette model that begins with the letter Z to go really fast.
6. 2020+ C8 Stingray (194 mph)
With the C8 Stingray GM moved the engine back and the performance forward. A C8 Stingray can hit an incredible 194 mph. If you option it with the Z51 package, your top speed suffers, and you would have to settle for ‘only’ 184 mph. Of course, the Z51 adds a lot of other goodies so the top speed trade off is likely worth it.
5. 2023+ C8 Z06 / 2015 – 2019 C7 Z06 (195 mph)
The C8 Z06 is going to be faster around a racetrack than the C7 Z06. But if you are talking only about top end speed, the two cars are evenly matched. Both will rocket on to a top speed of 195 mph. Adding the Z07 package to the C8 Z06 will lower the top speed to 188 mph. Aerodynamic drag is the enemy of top speed. But at speeds as high as this, most people are not going to miss a paltry 7 mph.
4. 2006 – 2013 C6 Z06 (198 mph)
It has been almost 20 years since the 505 horsepower C6 Z06 hit the streets. And the performance stats are still impressive. 0 to 60 mph in about three and a half seconds, and an 11.7 quarter mile with a 198-mph top speed. Yes, the LS7 under the hood is known for its dropped valves but there are preventative measures that can be taken to prevent that. Take care of that, and you have a reliable machine capable of serious speed.
3. 2009 – 2013 C6 ZR1 (205 mph)
To make in onto the podium of this list you need to be a member of the 200+ mph club. The 638 horsepower, supercharged C6 ZR1 gains entry to that club thanks to a 205-mph top speed. The C6 ZR1 was all about silly numbers when it was first launched in 2009. That horsepower figure is nutty. It is on par with the 2009 Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 which cost more than three times as much.
2. 2019 C7 ZR1 (212 mph)
We didn’t know how GM was going to top the insane C6 ZR1. That car made 638 horsepower, how much more could the C7 version make? Quite a bit more it turns out. With 755 horsepower the C7 ZR1 could hit an astounding 212 mph. That made it one of the fastest cars in the world. Faster than a McLaren Senna, Porsche 911 GT2 RS and an Aston Martin DBS Superleggera. Surely GM could never top this, right? And if they did top it, how much more power could they possibly put in a Corvette? 800 or maybe 850 horsepower, but surely no more than that, right?
1. 2025 C8 ZR1 (215+ mph)
The C8 ZR1 is a real-life cheat code. It is a thumb in the eye of supercars of the world. It is a thumb in the eye of hypercars of the world. If GM gave the C8 ZR1 a 10 or 15 percent bump in power over the C7 ZR1, we would have been impressed with that. But instead, the C8 ZR1 has over 40 percent more power than the C7 version. Wow. Just wow. The official top speed is not yet confirmed, but GM expects it will be at least 215 mph. It very well may be able to hit 220 or more. That is insane speed. It is the fastest Corvette ever made. The only question that remains, is how the heck is GM going to top this?
